Not a Warmed Over SLR Lens
The Sony 50mm f/1.8 OSS E has the new title of the quickest optically-stabilized camera lens for interchangeable lens digital cameras in
existence, be they mirrorless or SLR. Dont be bamboozle by the apparently bland header title. It's not a warmed over SLR lens, on the contrary it's an all-new fabrication in every possible way.
This new Sony E Mount 50mm lens provides anyone who's shooting with the standard E Mount 19-55mm kit lens, or the NEX 16mm pancake lens, the ability to capture portrait images using a f/1.8 fast aperture, to get added out of focus background images (bokeh), and better subject contast. The lens encompasses optical steady shot (image stabilization), while the bigger aperture enables better shots in poor light
Although the lens in itself is identical in size to the standard kit 18-55mm zoom, and additionally the build quality is nearly similar. A rather deep lens hood plus a 49mm lens cap are included. My initial impression of the lens is very upbeat. The autofocus is really quick. It's also stealth silent while operating. Image quality appears to be excellent. It's a sharp lens with a smooth background rendition.
