The Lens is Heavy, Especially When Mounted on Smaller Bodies

Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG HSM SLR Lens Boasting an improved optical design and a more compact size, Sigma has updated its 24-70mm f/2.8 zoom lens. Now it's an HSM version and it's smaller and said to be faster focusing via the Hypersonic motor (HSM). Rounded aperture blades produce pleasing bokeh (out-of-focus characteristics). The lens is available for Sigma, Canon, Nikon, Pentax and Sony DSLRs.

Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 IF DG HSM EX Lens is a big aperture standard zoom that encompasses a reach from wide angle through short telephoto. It is just right for all around photography like portraits, snapshots, and landscapes. When mounted on a DSLR camera that employs an APS-C image sensor, the lens will present a 36-105mm equlavent focal length.

Sigma uses the DG label on their lenses with optical systems created to meet the operational traits of DSLR cameras. A Super Multi Layer Coat reduces flaring and ghosting, and uses SLD and ELD glass to provide excellent correction for all sorts of aberrations. A Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) assures a silent, quick autofocus along with full-time manual focus capabilities.

Note! HSM lenses, although having the ability to manually focus on every Nikon F-mount DSLR camera, will not provide autofocus with some older SLR film AF cameras. This is the identical limitation to Nikon's very own AF-S lenses. Models that are Incompatible include: N55, N60, N6006, N8008/s, N4004, N5005, and N2020.

HSM means this lens will autofocus on Nikon D40/D40x, Nikon D60, Nikon D3000, Nikon D3100 and the Nikon D5000 DX Cameras

The lens is heavy, especially when mounted on smaller bodies such as a Canon Rebel. The Hood is quite shy for the focal ranges. The Large Diameter is difficult to grasp, especially with small hands. it's quite pricey for the lens being a non-OEM. Front-Focus continue to haunt Sigma. At 70mm at close focussing distances it consistently focus just ahead of the area you're attempting to focus on. After sending the lens to Sigma for repair, it was returned almost the same problem.  Sep 3, 2011
