The NX300 is a Rather Major Upgrade
The NX300 seems to look a lot like NX Cameras before it, the NX200 and the NX 10, however it includes a succession of updates showing indications of increased integration between the Samsung cameras and Samsung smart phones. The NX300 is constructed around a 20MP image sensor which includes phase-detection focusing elements to provide a Hybrid autofocus system for quicker focusing. It has
gained a bigger screen
than prior NXs - the new 3.3 inch OLED screen contains 768k dots (in essence an extended adaptation of the previous screen) - also it is touch-sensitive. A quicker processor assists the NX300 in
reaching nine fps for continuous shooting
, while permitting 1080p video to be captured at 60 frames per second. Enhancements to the Wi-Fi should allow for easier connectivity than the previous models.
Overall the NX is a rather major upgrade of the NX series while virtually every aspect of the major systems in the camera being upgraded or enhanced. The most obvious transformation is a tilting, larger, touch-sensitive rear monitor. It continues as an OLED panel which uses the Samsung PenTile engineering to provide 800 x 480 pix resolution with 768k dots (in place of the old 640 x 480 available on prior NXs).
Samsung promises the Wi-Fi on the camera is going to be easier to match up with external devices - a necessity for the process to become a feature people are going to be willing to use on a regular basis. This ambition is further assisted by a brand new app which incorporates all the features which were previously broken across two apps. It also adds an auto-share function where it will
re-connect with your smartphone and make a copy of every image you shoot across. The NX300 is also the very first camera to provide dual-channel Wi-Fi - which is beginning to show up on smart phones and laptops to provide quicker downloads.
However the NX300 has the potential to be much more than just a NX210 that's been meeting with the company smartphone department. The central photographic and
video graphic attributes also have received a lift. The phase-detection sensors on-chip provide a Hybrid AF methodology which integrates with the contrast-detection layout which exists to assure faster focusing (the amount of improvement is lens-dependent as usual,, however Samsung promises faster focus with every lens).
A faster processor, labeled DRIMe IV, provides 8.6 frames per second continuous shooting along with 1080p60 video capture. Also, the NX300 can shoot using
1/6000th of a second shutter speeds. The Samsung NX300 will be priced around $749.99.
Samsung is also releasing a 3D-capable model of the 45mm f/1.8 NX lens. The 3D version may be employed as a regular lens but also features a pair of LCD screens which scissor into the ocular path as the 3D mode is engaged. These pair of screens each take their turn to power-out their respective segments of the lens, allowing a slightly unique image to be propeled onto the camera's image sensor.
The NX300 can acquire and intermix these alternating frames for creating either stills or 3D movies.
Samsung says this feature cannot be retrofitted to older NX versions. The lens in a 3D version is priced around $499, $200 more than the the conventional version.
