Canon announces the PowerShot N

Designed Specifically for the
Instagram Generation

Canon PowerShot N Digital Camera Compact Canon PowerShot N, camera designed specifically for the generation of instagram users as a companion to their smartphones. The N is constructed with tilting touch-screen as the main focus, while its shutter release and round-lens controller zoom are designed to let it act identically whether being held right-side-up or held upside-down.

The PowerShot N features a 'Creative Shot' function that spawns multiple copies of your photo, so you end up with the image you created along with five alternatives containing unique processing effects and crops. Canon has promised one-touch connectivity to Wi-Fi to make it effortless to upload pictures and movies to the internet your smartphone. To expand its capability greater than a smartphone, the PowerShot N features an equivalent 28-224mm lens along with a 12 megapixel CMOS sensor combined with the Digic 5 processor.

In conjunction with all other camera manufacturers', Canon is frantically trying to find some way to have their compact camera stay relevant as more and more users decide they're happy using just their smartphones. So, while the 8x zoom lens, 12MP image sensor, and the Canon Digic 5 processor all are instantaneously familiar because of existing Canon PowerShot cameras, Canon is attempting to provide a connectivity and shooting experience significantly more engaging than the typical compact camera. It's become almost common for camera makers to provide Wi-Fi capability along with apps to allow communicating with a smartphone, however today's current adaptations have been too ungainly to be a convincing reason to buy.

Clearly, Canon hopes that building a small, easy-to-connect, fun-to-use camera will influence people on the merits of carrying a PowerShot N right beside their smartphone. To get a sense about how well they have succeeded.  ✓
