It's All in the Detail
Canon EOS 5DS R DSLR Camera provides the full resolving power of its new sensor, which is a variant of the 5DS camera with the sensor's low-pass filter neutered. By cancelling the filter effect, the 50.6MP sensor is able to provide an even higher resolution with increased intricate details. The possible downside is that the cancellation function brings with it an increased possibility of moiré and other color fabrications. This is the camera for those interested in the absolute resolution from the sensor and the capability to control color artifacts in-camera or with post-processing software.
This is the long-awaited sequel to the showboat 5D Mark III and includes new technology along with an array of significant improvements, placing it in very ambitious territory for a DSLR. Containing a full-frame 50.6MP CMOS sensor, the D5S R captures ultra-high resolution images well suited for large-scale printing along with extensive, creative cropping. A pair of DIGIC 6 Image Processors provide the means to handle this abundance of technology, delivering fast performance speeds and paramount image quality. The 5DS R also offers advanced video capability including 1080p HD capture at 30 frames per second and a Time Lapse movie mode which shoots still photos at set intervals and subsequently combines them into a full HD movie.
The EOS Scene Detection System featuring a 150,000-pixel RGB+IR metering sensor offers accurate exposure and color metering while the 61-point High Density Reticular autofocus sensor featuring 41 cross-type points enables precise autofocus placement and Canon's EOS Intelligent Tracking and Resolution (iTR) augments AF performance by making use of information from the metering sensor. Croped images at 1.3x and 1.6x allows for elasticity in the size of image files acquired and the choice of lenses. Also, there's a built-in intervalometer and bulb timer to expand your creative options. An advanced mirror control device and new user selectable shutter release lag times regulate camera vibration for diminished blur and quiet operation. An anti-flicker function makes adjustments for flickering light sources, administering consistent exposure metering during continuous photography. Despite its big file sizes, the 5DS R can still deliver up to a 5 fps continuous shooting rate.
For stable eye-level composition the 5DS R contains the Intelligent Viewfinder II featuring 100% coverage. In addition to having clear view, a superimposed, transparent LCD is integrated which displays setting information and presents a customizable view of grid lines and focus points. The 3.2 inch ClearView II LCD monitor administers playback and live view composition with it's 1.04m-dot resolution and a 170º viewing angle. High-transparency ingredients along with multi-coatings thwart reflections for bright viewing, of special importance when shooting video.
The 5DS R is a robust, multi-faceted camera for advanced users, yet its dimensions are pretty much the same as that of the 5D Mark III. A magnesium-alloy case provides resistance to impact and the elements while inputs feature a PC terminal, 3-pin input, an external mic jack along with HDMI out and USB 3.0 congruity. The base plate along with tripod socket have also been bolstered to reduce vibrations and establish a secure attachment to support systems. A pair of media slots for both Compact Flash and SD format memory cards are included. A customizable Quick Control System lets you easily switch between frequently used settings and functions
