Description

When used on digital SLR cameras the AT-X M35 PRO DX prime lens gives the same angle of view as a 52mm lens. The close focusing distance of the M35 is an amazingly close 5.5 in. (14cm) yielding a macro ratio of 1:1 or life-sized reproduction with excellent sharpness. Its compact size makes it easy to carry almost everywhere and the wide f/2.8 aperture allows for easier viewing in low light situations.

The front element of the AT-X M35 PRO DX has a newly formulated WR or "Water Repellent" optical coating on the glass. This new coating makes marks such as spots left by water or finger-prints much easier to clean than standard multi-coating.

Tokina's exclusive One-touch Focus Clutch Mechanism allows the photographer to switch between AF and MF simply by snapping the focus ring forward for AF and back toward the camera to focus manually. There is no need to change the AF-MF switch on Nikon cameras.

NOTE: This lens WILL NOT autofocus on the Nikon D40, D40x, D60, D3000, and D5000 Digital SLR cameras.

Features

DX Designation
Tokina's DX designation is on lenses designed to be mounted on APS-C cropped sensor cameras, except that while they can be mounted on other EOS cameras, the projected image is too small to cover the whole sensor. Also, the Tokina lens is designed for the 1.5 crop factor (used by Nikon, Pentax and Sony) and not the 1.6 crop factor used by Canon.

WR Water Repellent optical coating on the glass
The front element has a "Water Repellent" optical coating on the glass. This new coating makes marks such as spots left by water or finger-prints much easier to clean than standard multi-coating.

One Touch Focus Clutch Mechanism
A refinement of the focus clutch mechanism has been incorporated in the AT-X 280 AF PRO Nikon and Canon mount, so that now the lens’ focus ring can be snapped back to the manual focus position at any time, from any position. This improvement means it is not necessary to change the AF/MF switch (on the body with Nikon or the lens with Canon) every time the lens is changed from auto focus to manual focus mode.

Macro
The close focusing distance is 5.5 in. (14cm) yielding a macro ratio of 1:1 or life-sized reproduction with excellent sharpness. Lenses are designated as "Macro" lenses only if the lens is capable of achieving considerably closer focusing compared to many similar lenses, or if the lens featured either a macro button or some other form of specific mechanism in order to get into macro mode. If the lens merely featured continuous focusing to a very short focus distance, then it appears that the lens has "Macro" designation only if the lens can achieve a macro reproduction ratio of 1:6 or better.

Comments about Tokina 35mm f/2.8 AT-X M35 Pro DX Macro Autofocus Lens for Nikon Digital:

This lens lets you get real close to the subject, as much as 1" away from the lens if you wish with a Nikon having a 1.5x EFL factor. A very substantial well built lens with great color and a phenominal flat focus. Worth every penny & I consider it a real bargain at this price! (I use manual focus & tripod for exceptional detail with this lens.)
