To maintain strength, duraluminum alloy and a chrome plate brass mount plate is used as
the Tokina 28-80 AFX-PRO f/2.8 zoom lenses foundation. Then modern composite material
forms the outer barrels, focus and zoom rings. This result is a
lens that weighs less than its predecessor, but maintaines AT-X quality. SD glass, and inclusion of an all glass molded
aspherical element in its two aspheric optical design completely corrects all
aberrations, providing high contrast and sharpness right to the edges.
The minimum focus distance is just 19.7 inches (50 cm) throughout the entire zoom range, which allows close up shots at a magnification of 1:5 at the 80 mm setting.
Tokina has sped up
auto focus and improved handling by incorporating a One-Touch Focus Clutch Mechanism which allows the focus ring to be moved from AF to manual focus with just a quick snap movement of the manual focus ring. No other AF/manual switches on the
camera or lens need to be set. "
This outfit also includes a high-quality SLR camera carrying case by Aosta. This convenient slim design messenger-style gadget bag is large enough to hold a camera and 2 lenses plus accessories. It also features a zippered main compartment, a zippered outside pocket, an outside flap pocket, plus a mesh outside pocket for quick access to your most important accessories. It also features a removable foam divider for keeping your camera and lenses protected from all sides, as well as an adjustable shoulder strap.
On 2.8 quality is not impressive, when closed to 5.6 - 8 it is very sharp.
I don't like barrel distortions at 28 mm, but it is casual in this type of lens. the quality and handling are perfect, tank built - heavy. great grip, even better AF/MF switch. somewhat internal focusing is useful with polar circ. filter. when hood is attached, lens look terrifying. i am not a pro, but with this lens on people think so.
