Finished Metal with a Metal Lens Mount
The Sony E-mount 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 PZ OSS the new power zoom with a more complex optical formula, featuring 17 elements within 12 groups, and one is an
ED glass extra-low dispersion element, containing five aspherical total surfaces. This offers slightly in excess of an 11x optical zooming ratio, taking in everything from a useable 27mm wide angle equivalent to a powerful telephoto 300mm when combined with a focal length crop factor of the Sony NEX camera body.
Exactly like the prime, it features a circular aperture with seven-blades
yielding smoother bokeh. At the wide end, the aperture can vary, starting at f/3.5 thru f/22; when it reaches telephoto this drops to a f/6.3 thru f/40 range. Not a surprise, this power zoom lens requires much bigger filters with 67mm threads. It includes the Sony Optical SteadyShot stabilization, which includes an Active mode that
delivers added stabilization while getting close to the wide-angle zoom end.
The power zoom Sony PZ e 18-200mm lens is
aimed at videography. Exactly like the prime lens, the 18-200 PZ is finished metal, a metal lens mount and includes a built-in autofocus stepper motor, and it also supports direct manual focusing. It measures 3.75 x 4 inches, and the weighs 22.9 ounces. Mounted on an
APS-C sensor camera the maximum magnification ratio is 0.35x, while the minimum focus distance ranges from 12 inches at wide angle thru 20 inches at the telephoto end .
As you'd presume of a lens engineered for videography, Sony rates the aperture device and the autofocus motor as possessing "whisper-quiet" levels from noise while being used. There are three zoom speed speed options, controlled using a lens barrel rocker switch. Zoom may also be directly controlled using the camcorder when photographing with a Sony NEX-VG30, NEX-VG900 and NEX-FS700 with existing firmware. Available during March 2013, the lens will be priced at around $1,200 US.
