Delivers on Everything That it Promises
Sony SAL-70-200mm G 70-200mm f/2.8 APO SSM telephoto Lens, a high-end lens that uses supersonic-wave motor (SSM) engineering for more silent, smoother autofocus. This zoom G-Series lens encompasses a wide range of recurrent telephoto shooting conditions. it resembles a 35mm SLR film camera at 105-300mm, a big f/2.8 aperture zoom and nearly silent, quick-speed SSM (SuperSonic-Wave Motor) AF accuracy makes it perfect for far away sports and wildlife shooting.
With complete range of operations intended for the professional photographer, the 70-200mm G lens offers crisp, color-free photos across the entire zoom range at all aperture settings. Highest-quality multi-coatings enhances transmittance and diminishes flare to maintain contrast.
The 70-200mm G lens delivers on everything that it promises. The build is absolutely fantastic quality. It is really fast and nearly silent. And naturally, as everyone always remarks, quite heavy. It took me some time, being a recreational photographer, to muster the fortitude (and coin) to shell out for this lens, although there are zero regrets.
In general it's a fantastic lens, although only if you require quick focusing plus the extra stops associated by a f2.8 perpetual aperture. If not, you'd be way ahead with either the Sony 70-300G, although it's 2 stops slower, and more compact, less expensive with more reach. In this price span you can also get the Sony 70-400, also an awesome lens, but 2 stops slower plus it's slightly less money with twice the focal reach (although it features a horrendous silver finish plus it extends a bunch while zooming).
Did I mention that it's heavy (3.31
and expensive too
Note! autofocus with this lens may only be employed on Sony SLRs, or the Minolta Maxxum 7 or newer versions (Maxxum 5, 4, 3, etc.).

SSM (Super Sonic wave Motor) built-in for faster automatic focusing with high torque at low speed, quick start/stop response, and quiet, smooth operation.
Four precision ED Glass lenses correct chromatic aberrations and deliver visually accurate results even at full telephoto zoom extension.
Three Focus Hold buttons are provided, which lock the focus at the press of a button.
Two DMF (Direct Manual Focus) modes give exacting control over the AF system. Standard DMF allows the photographer to fine tune the focus after the AF system has locked onto the subject. Full-time DMF gives the photographer access to manual focus control at any time by simply turning the focusing ring.
Two focus-range limit settings reduce auto-focusing time.
A 9-blade Circular Aperture design keeps the defocused image of point light sources outside the depth of field round between f/2.8 and f/5.6.
A removable tripod collar rotates 360° so the camera and lens can be orientated in any position when mounted from above or below.
A lightweight, but durable, petal-type lens hood is lined with velvet to reduce flare. The hood also has a covered polarizing-filter window so that a polarizing filter can be rotated without having to remove the hood from the lens.
