Featured with the NEX-C3 camera, Sony has announced the 30mm F3.5 Macro. This 30mm F3.5 becomes lens number four announced for the Sony E system. It's a
miniature, internal focusing macro with the capacity for actual 1:1 magnification, and has the identical handsome metal-barreled exterior as the other Sony E-mount optic lenses. Sony assert it's the lightest weight macro lens for exchangeable cameras, with a meager 55mm length and 62mm in around i t's even tinier than the Panasonic 45mm F2.8 Micro Four Thirds lens. To add to the appeal it's also noticeably inexpensive.
The news is not all great, though. The somewhat short focal length suggests that the working space from the front tip of the lens to your subject at 1:1 becomes less than one inch, and despite the fact that the Sony press release implies that this is a positive thing and perfect for photographing flowers and bugs, the bare facts are that you'll have difficulty with illuminating those flowers while the lens is so close. And in addition any insects will be scared away and either scurry or fly off, depending on type. That's just part the price of admission you must pay for a lens that costs so little.
The rather humble maximum aperture and missing image stabilization also puts a limit on the utility of the lens past macro work. it's not ikely to have enough speed for photographing in natural light indoors.
