Sigma 800mm f5.6 EX DG HSM APO Lens

Sigma 800mm f5.6 EX DG HSM APO Ultra Telephoto Lens

Description

Ideal lenses for Digital SLR Cameras while retaining suitability for traditional 35mm SLRsSigma's APO 800mm f5.6 EX is one of the EX Series lenses and is fully compatible with all Nikon Digital SLR cameras including the D40, D40X, D60, D3000, D3100 and D5000. It is an Apochromatic ultra-telephoto lens with a fast F5.6 maximum aperture, and incorporates two Extraordinary Low Dispersion glass elements (Abbe number 90.3), to reduce chromatic aberration to minimum limit. It also incorporates internal focusing which enables responsive and fast auto focus speed.

In order to attain the highest quality images, this APO lens has been made using special low-dispersion (SLD) glass and is designed to minimize color aberration.

This SIGMA APO zoom lens minimizes color aberration. As the refractive index of glass depends on the wavelength of light, color aberration occurs when different colors form images at different points. This problem often occurs with telephoto lenses, but the Special Low-Dispersion (SLD) glass and Extraordinary Low Dispersion (ELD) used in this lens helps to compensate for color aberration, thereby allowing it to produce sharp images.

The AF drive for Sigma SA, Canon and Nikon S.L.R. cameras features the ultra-quiet Hyper Sonic Motor (H.S.M.). This lens uses a motor driven by ultrasonic waves to provide a quiet, highspeed AF. With conventional auto-focusing, auto-focus is driven by electromagnetic force of a DC-motor, gear and shaft mechanism. However, Ultrasonic Oscillation Energy operates the HSM lens and creates high-torque drive. Since this motor has no reduction gears, it has much quicker response to start and stop compared to DC- motor lenses. HSM system has virtually silent auto focus function, very quick responsive auto focus function and "full-time" manual focus, wherein AF can be overridden without disengaging the AF mode altogether.

The DG is an ideal lens for Digital SLR Cameras while retaining suitability for traditional 35mm SLRs. DG lenses are designed to work on 35mm SLR film cameras and digital cameras with 'full frame sensors. They can also be used on the cropped sensor cameras as the image circle they cast on the sensor is larger than needed.

The DG lenses feature improved (more even) light distribution from image center to edge, especially at maximum aperture, compared to conventional fast wide-angle lenses. This is important in digital photography, but is also useful in 35mm photography, especially when slide film is used. The lens elements also utilize Sigma’s super multi layer coating which reduces flare and internal reflections from the highly sensitive surface of image sensors.

This new lens also incorporates a rotary filter holder in the rear part of the lens barrel, which enables the use of a polarizing filter. Sigma's dedicated APO EX Tele Converter 1.4x MF and 2x MF can be used with this lens. The lens materials used in this new lens are lead and arsenic free ecological glass.

The exterior of this lens is EX-finished to denote the superior build and optical quality, and to enhance its appearance.

Super Telephoto Lens
High Power telephoto lenses from 400 mm to 800 mm (APS-C 300 mm 500 mm) and longer are very expensive, even for the slower versions, but they provide the ultimate in telephoto photography. Deep pockets are needed for most lenses in this range, particularly the faster versions, as one lens can cost more than the average person may spend on photography in their life. A super-telephoto lens can reveal far-off objects barely visible to the human eye.
A professional-quality 400 mm ƒ/2.8 lens is the ultimate dream lens of many sports and wildlife photographers, which they may save for years to acquire. A 600 mm ƒ/4 lens is even more striking, but the 16-times magnification of an 800 mm ƒ/5.6 lens can also be used for astrophotography with clear, vivid results.

Professional photographers are the primary consumers of such magnificent lenses. A majority of the images we see in publications are shot with these lenses.
