Sigma 70-300mm F/4-5.6 DG SLD Super Macro Lens

Description

Ideal lenses for Digital SLR Cameras while retaining suitability for traditional 35mm SLRsThis is a telephoto zoom lens with excellent cost performance, for it is capable of macro photography with a 1:2 maximum close-up magnification at the 300 mm focal length. It also has a switch for changeover to macro photography at focal lengths between 200 mm and 300 mm. The minimum focusing distance is 1.5 m/59 inches at all zoom settings. Sigma used SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass in this lens for excellent correction of chromatic aberration. This lens is also effectively corrected for fluctuation of aberration due to focusing. It is the ideal lens for portraits, sports photography, nature photography, and other types of photography that frequently use the telephoto range.

If you need a low light lens, this isn't it. If your primary objective is to take pictures in low light situation such as wedding and concerts, then get the 50-150mm f/2.8 HSM or the 70-200mm f/2.8 OS HSM or the 70-300 OS instead.

This DG lens was designed to work on 35mm SLR film cameras, digital SLR cameras and digital SLR cameras with 'full frame sensors. it can also be used on the cropped sensor cameras as the image circle they cast on the image sensor is larger than needed.

The DG lens features improved (more even) light distribution from image center to edge, especially at maximum aperture, compared to conventional fast wide-angle lenses. This is important in digital photography, but is also useful in 35mm photography, especially when slide film is used. The lens elements also utilize Sigma’s super multi layer coating which reduces flare and internal reflections from the highly sensitive surface of image sensors.

Note: this lens has no built-in motor and will not autofocus on the Nikon D40/D40x, Nikon D60, Nikon D3000, Nikon D3100 or the Nikon D5000 Cameras.

Works pretty well!!!!, June 25, 2009

By Amy L. Sheehan

I bought this lens to go along with me nikon nikkor 18-55 lens because I wanted more of a zoom! It was pretty cheap but works well, If you are looking for a macro lens, don't buy this for Macro, because it doesn't work well for it!! Anyway it works for those FAR AWAY shots and you may need a tripod for when you go up to 300mm!! I think it is worth the money, BUY THIS LENS!!!!!

Excellent lens... even better price, June 5, 2009

By F. Madeira (Howell, NJ United States)

I bought this lens for my Nikon D40x. I was a little leery about buying it because its price is so much less than comparable Nikon lenses. I assumed it would be of lesser quality than a Nikon lens, but it did not disappoint in any way. The image quality is excellent, the focus is super fast and most importantly, the pictures come out great, even displayed on a 24 inch monitor. You'll need to buy a bigger camera bag... it's a very large lens. Highly recommend.
