The optical zoom is completely internal, which prevents sensitive parts from telescoping in or out of the camera. Second of all all the ports (SDHC, USB, etc.) are hidden behind a single door on the side, not the bottom. This gives the device a single, secure entry point to seal off. Finally, the camera has a lot of exposed screws that are clearly given prominence to make it look rugged and it has a lot of metal hardware.

I have had this camera for only about a week and I love it! The pictures and movies are so clear. Also I cant wait to use the underwater feature on our next vacation. It also gives me some peace of mind knowing that it can be dropped from 5 ft and not be damaged. Their program you use on the computer is great too. So many awesome features!

We are consulting engineers and need cameras to record status and progress of large construction projects. Hazardous duty for any electronic equipment and we have lost cameras when dropped or from water, dust, etc. This unit has all the features we need and is tough enough for this type of use.
