Olympus was founded in 1919 as Takachiho Seisakusho, and the company began making microscopes and thermometers. The company registered Olympus as a trademark in 1921, using that brand name on its first camera in 1936, called the Semi-Olympus I. In 1949, the company was renamed Olympus Optical.

Budget FE series compacts have built-in help guides and put emphasis on simple operation. Olympus has just offered some revolutionary technologies in point-and-shoot lines and Evolt SLRs. Their high-end SP compacts feature extremely long zooms. Special Stylus subcompacts have been made water-resistant, waterproof, shockproof, and crushproof. All point-and-shoots use the somewhat more expensive xD memory cards. Evolt digital SLRs were the first cameras to feature live-preview LCDs. Olympus offers a quite good range of lenses

The Olympus Stylus 7040 14MP Digital Camera compact inch-thick body contains a 1/2.3"-type 14-megapixel CCD image sensor coupled to an Olympus-branded 7x optical zoom lens which offers focal length equivalents from a generous 28mm wide angle to a useful 196mm telephoto. A 3" LCD display with 230,000 dot resolution offers the Stylus 7040's only option for framing and reviewing images, as there's no optical viewfinder on this model. Usefully given since it has a telephoto lens, the camera does offer true mechanical image stabilization, - one half of Olympus' "Dual Image Stabilization" system for fighting blur. - This adjustable holder (ref. A300) attaches to the tripod socket in the base of your camera.

- The screw slides along the grooves of the Shoe Filter-Holder so as to allow correct positioning underneath the camera.

- The Filter-Holder mounts must be correctly positioned facing the lens so as to work properly once the filters are inserted.

- Once you have found the ideal position for the Holder, tighten the screw underneath the camera tripod socket.
