Olympus Zoom Super Wide Angle 9-18mm f/4-5.6 ED Zuiko Micro Four Thirds Zoom Lens

Description

Micro Four Thirds System

Olympus M.ZUIKO ED 9-18mm F4.0-5.6 (a 35mm equivalent to 18-36mm) Engineered to take full advantage of the performance benefits of the New Micro Four Thirds Camera System, the new lens is significantly lighter in weight plus more compact to easily fit into a the pocket of your jacket

The new lens is manufactured using extra-low dispersion (ED) glass providing superior image quality and to complement the PEN® cameras engineering, which includes the powerfully straightforward E-PL1, creating an all-inclusive package for photographers with any level of skill, including beginners new to the photography world.

This Micro Four Thirds model is in step with the telecentric prerequisite for dedicated digital design (Having the entrance pupil at infinity makes the lens object-space to be telecentric). Light rays collide with the imaging element virtually head-on for the most advantageous edge-to-edge photo replica. It also allows a significantly greater compact package than the original Four Thirds System (or any other interchangeable lens system for that matter) as it reduces the outside lens mount diameter by 6mm, plus cutting the lens mount distance from the the image sensor (the distance to the flange back) by virtually half. Consequently the, M.ZUIKO Micro Four Thirds lens provides uncompromising professional photo quality for shooting both still-photos plus High-Definition (HD) movies, additionally the lens is exceptionally compact package to allow capturing your life events more enjoyable.

The super wide 9-8mm zoom (with a 35mm equivalent of 18-6mm) doubles the angle of view, plus throws out the rule that a super wide-angle zoom must be huge and heavy. The length is only 49mm and weighs only 155g, that's less than one half the overall size and weighs 60 percent less than the original ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 9-18mm lens. Allowing a wide viewing angle, you can now include background scenes in group photos to become a breeze, plus it can be employed to produce one of a kind images featuring a sense of spectacularly exaggerated point of view.

By taking full advantage of the Micro Four Thirds engineering, condensed size, reduced weight and outstanding image quality, the new lens makes for a significant addition to the photographic system potential. The inner focusing devise features a lightweight, condensed, sole-element unit allowing exceptionally fast, stealth-like auto-focusing for smooth, first-class operating simplicity while capturing still and video images. The manual focus mechanism was designed to provide a receptive feel and accurate operation, giving you an affordable, first-rate-quality tool to record your life events in still or HD video images.

The lens is compatible with every Micro Four Thirds Olympus PEN camera, including any other current and cameras in the future that complies with the Micro Four Thirds standard. When attached to an Olympus PEN system camera, the lens become stabilized due to the integrated internal Image Stabilization scheme and allows effective anti-shake compensation at every focal length.   Updated Review May 15, 2011
