in low-light photography. The Nikon 50mm f/1.2 AI-S is the fastest lens in Nikon's lens lineup. This is one of three commercially made normal lenses that Nikon
produced for the F mount that has a maximum aperture of f/1.2. The two others
are the Nikkor 55mm f/1.2 and the Noct-Nikkor 58mm f/1.2. The Nikkor 50mm f/1.2 AI-S is the only one still in production. With it's very wide f/1.2
aperture very shallow
depth of field is possible. It also provides very shallow depth images when used at f/1.2. This lens is notably superior to the previous 55mm f/1.2 design and produces a better result at f/1.2.

The people who say this lens is soft either needs glasses or the need some sort
of manual focus training lessons. This is probably the absolute sharpest lens
ever made by Nikon. Reading the reviews from professional
photographers
it is quick to ascertain this is not a casual, all-purpose len, but is a lens
made for a specific, high-end niche, and 90 percent of the people would be better off with the less expensive, more automatic f/1.8 AF lens, but for what it does, it does it
exceptionally well. On a D40, D40x, D3000 and D5000 all prime lenses are manual focus anyway, and relying on auto-exposure is
pure laziness...skill will always trump the camera's guess any day.
