Nikon 24mm f/1.4G ED lens

Description: AF-S NIKKOR 24mm f/1.4G ED lens

AF-S NIKKOR 24mm f/1.4G ED quick ultra-aperture wide angle designed for professional photo journalism and landscape photographers, the new wide lens features an Innovative optical fabrication for Nikon’s stable of category leading FX-size DSLR camera bodies.

The new 24mm f/1.4G lens makes the array of Nikon’s professional lenses even stronger which already include a collection of award winning Nikon zoom lenses like the Nkon 24-70mm f/2.8. Many photographers are going to enjoy it's trivial depth of field plus the brilliant image provided to the viewfinder offered by this really quick aperture prime lens, predominantly with photojournalists

Nikon 24mm f/1.4G ED introduces a unique optical ;lyout which makes improved image quality available, with a minimum of distortion and fantastic edge to corner crispness particularly at the wider aperture range settings. This all new optical array merges Nikon’s ED glass, proprietary Nano Crystal anti-reflection coating, plus aspherical elements to supply bright, high contrast photo quality with a minimum amount of distortions and aberrations. There's a rounded nine blade diaphragm that contribute to display images with dramatic Nikon trademark bokeh.

The lens includes a built-in Silent Wave Motor allowing smooth and stealth autofocus functions, and is engineered to last with widespread magnesium use employed in its creation, and also includes weather and dust seals, which also surrounds the mount. It comes complete with a dedicated tight fitting HB-51 hood, and soft pouch.

An f/1.4 lens is not usually as efficient as the same manufacture's f/1.8 or f/2 lenses, even when both are stopped down to f/5.6. the lens with the wider aperture is heaver and more expensive, so don't choose it as your standard unless you are planning a great deal of photography poor light conditions. There' plenty of reasons for using a wide aperture, but avoid buying a lens with an aperture wider than you need.

Typical Internet Price $2100. Updated Review May 9, 2011

Features

The new Nikon AF-S Nikkor 24mm f/1.4G ED Wide Angle Lens is a precision prime lens with a natural wide angle view and is constructed to deliver the crisp and distortion-free image captures that are expected from Nikon.

AF-S Autofocus lens featuring a Silent wave, coreless, integrated, focus motor (unwrapped in 1996). Basically an updated AF-I Autofocus-Silent sporting a "Silent Wave Motor" (ultrasonic) to focus near silently and fast.

2 AS - Aspherical lens elements - Nikon unveiled the first lens in 1968 featuring aspherical camera lens elements. What makes them different? Aspherical lenses all but eliminates the issues of coma and related kinds of lens aberrations even when employed at the maximum aperture.

2 ED- (Extra-low Dispersion Glass Elements)
a necessary element of the Nikon telephoto lens Nikon engineered Extra-low Dispersion optical glass to facilitate the manufacture of lenses that provide superior color correction and sharpness by diminishing chromatic aberrations

G - labeled after the f-number.
A G-lens contains no aperture ring, therefore aperture may only be electronically controlled by the camera and only autofocus camera bodies featuring function dials have the capacity to control G lenses

M/A mode
AF-S Nikon lenses include the exclusive Nikon M/A focus function, that permits switching from auto to manual focus virtually without time lag - even while the AF servo is in operation regardless of the AF mode in play.

N-Nano Crystal Coat
Nano Crystal Coat consist of an antireflective coat that stemmed from the cultivation of Nikon NSR-series (Step and Repeat type) semiconductor fabricating devices

RD- Rounded 9 Blade Diaphragm
Soft-focus images of point light resources create accepted polygonal shapes that mirror the form of the cavity produced by the diaphragm blades.

RF - Rear Focusing
Nikon’s Rear Focus system divides all lens elements into express lens groups, allowing only the back lens group to move for focus purposes

SWM- Silent Wave Motor
Nikon AF-S engineering is yet one more rationale why professional photographers like Nikon telephoto optical lenses.
