This lens is simply astounding. Naturally it's sharp, almost from corner to edge, even on an FX body,
however the primary reason to get it isn't for the sharpness, although more accurately for it's astonishing bokeh, and the command you have over it. This lens can create soft, creamy, showers of color, and by using the DC ring, almost guaranteeing you come away with perfect bokeh not just at any aperture ranging from f/2 thru f/5.6, however you can ensure this bokeh for your choice of foreground or background entities as required, .which is something that's impossible using normal lenses. There may always be some combination of background distances and subject matter, and aperture sizes that may create poor bokeh using a regular lens.
By properly using the DC ring, then this state of affairs becomes a thing of the past.
The mount is metal, the AF is the "screw type" and the lens has an aperture ring
so it is compatible with all past Nikon cameras,

if you get real lucky and find a cherry picked one of thes lenses, like the legendary ones you "only hear" about, then you'll find the bokeh is merely invincible. But, bokeh doesn't matter when your subject turns out softer than a Downey blanket, and without sharp-focus.
In my opinion 1 in 10 of these lenses are so amazing they have developed a following, while the remaining 9 are just so, so lenses with a lot of issues.
