Leica Vario-Elmar-T 18-56mm Lens The Leica Vario-Elmar-T 18-56mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH Lens is a zoom lens that provides a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 27-84mm. It has a variable maximum aperture of f/3.5 to f/5.6, and a minimum aperture of f/16. There are ten elements in seven groups with four aspherical surfaces. Front and rear lens caps as well as a pouch are all included to help protect your lens.

The lens is a relatively compact standard zoom lens, at least when compared to its DSLR equivalents; but it's still quite a lot larger than a comparable Micro Four Thirds zoom, for example. It complements the Leica T very well, not feeling at all front-heavy even when fully zoomed out.

The overall build quality is very good, thanks to a mostly anodized metal body construction, and is certainly in keeping with the superlative Leica T body. The Leica Vario-Elmar-T 18-56mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH lens also boasts a metal mount and non-rotating 52mm filter thread.

Both the zoom and the focus rings are smooth in action without being too loose. Zoom creep is not an issue. The focus ring is quite narrow and has no “hard stops” at either end of the focus range.

  • Manual override is possible when in AF Mode
  • The lens accepts 52mm threaded filters, and the filters do not rotate when zooming the lens
  • Bayonet lens hood included
  • Black anodized finish

    Leica: Witness to a Century

The Leica is both a product of the twentieth century's inventive spirit and the means by which that spirit could be documented for posterity. As the first handheld camera, the Leica made possible a new kind of documentary photography, and included among its devoted fans are many of the century's greatest photographers. Its combined qualities of precision and compactness made it an essential tool for photographers everywhere, and today more than ever the Leica is prized by collectors.
