Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L IS USM Telephoto Lens Description
This lens is very fast, it can focus very rapidly and follow flying
birds accurately. If this is the main reason for this lens, it excels in
every respect, it can be hand held, very sharp even when the aperture is
wide open, image stabilization is excellent and it is very fast lens,
fast focusing. It's is an expensive lens, so if you think you will use
it only occasionally, then I advise you not to buy it, but to rent it
first, otherwise it worth the price.
Warning, never rent this lens If you are a hobbyist! if you do and later
decide it's to expensive, there is a strong likelihood are you may not be
pleased with photos from any other
telephoto lens after you see the outcome from this
one. The 300 f/2.8mm lens is
as good as it gets,
fast autofocus,
image stabilization (that works),
ultrasonic motor, great color & contrast, and works well with the 2X extender making it a 600mm f5.6. It is expensive, but if you need a fast super telephoto with
mind-boggling image quality this is it.
A piece of junk plastic lens, will never give you the pleasure this one does.
The fluorite element and two UD-glass elements effectively correct the chromatic aberrations prone to occur with telephoto lenses. With the EOS-1v and EOS-3, the AF speed becomes the world's fastest. To reduce the overall weight and enhance portability, the lens barrel and many other exterior parts use magnesium-alloy. Also, the detachable tripod collar revolves smoothly and locks securely.
Like all
L series
lenses, this one is built extremely solid. It may feel fairly large and bulky to those who haven't used L series lenses before. The extra bulk is
comes from higher quality glass and the use of more durable materials (metal vs. plastic).
Super Telephoto Lens
High Power telephoto lenses from 400 mm to 800 mm (APS-C 300 mm 500 mm) and
longer are very expensive, even for the slower versions, but they provide
the ultimate in telephoto photography. Deep pockets are needed for most
lenses in this range, particularly the faster versions, as one lens can cost
more than the average person may spend on photography in their life. A
super-telephoto lens can reveal far-off objects barely visible to the human
eye.
A professional-quality 400 mm ƒ/2.8 lens is the ultimate dream lens of many
sports and wildlife photographers, which they may save for years to acquire.
A 600 mm ƒ/4 lens is even more striking, but the 16-times magnification of
an 800 mm ƒ/5.6 lens can also be used for astrophotography with clear, vivid
results.
Professional photographers are the primary consumers of such magnificent
lenses. A majority of the images we see in publications are shot with these
lenses.
