28mm f/2.8 EF wide-angle Prime Lens by Canon

Let's assume you are a cannon shooter and you only wanted a single lens for your DSLR, or you just want to keep your equipment down to a bare minimum, and this would become your solitary lens. Of course, this would limit your photography range, no more large congregations of people in tight spaces; no sports images. Aside from that, this is an excellent all-around photography lens.

Don't feel the more expensive f/1.8 is a better lens. In my experience, the ultrawide aperture lenses are harder to optically correct and not often appreciably better, but they are conspicuously heavier and more expensive. While the wide aperture might help when shooting action, you should ask yourself if a considerable amount of your photos require a fast lens. Otherwise you're shelling out money for naught. The 28mm f/2.8 is an extremely easy to carry wide-angle lens with a good price-to-performance ratio. Its light weight of 6.5 oz. (185g) makes it ideal as a wide-angle prime lens. The high-precision aspherical lens minimizes distortion and other aberrations for sharp and high-contrast images.
