Description: Canon EF 28mm f/1.8 USM Fast wide-angle prime Lens

On APS-C cameras, I prefer this wider-angle focal length over the EF 50mm f/1.8 which is just a bit too long for candid photos without constantly moving back, or being reconciled to only face shots. Forget about zoom lenses,  this fast 28mm is a wonderful prime lens for enthusiasts of candid indoor shooting when flash is just not an option and when you especially want great images that don't get in the way or nark your subjects.

Mounted on a cropped image sensor camera, the 28mm gets close to the 35mm SLR equivalent focal length for a 'normal' 50mm lens which pretty much shoots what you actually view with your eye. Although It is not a Canon L lens, it's is excellent for a non-L lens class.

This EF 28mm lens lets you get more in your composition by broadening your viewing angle and upping the field depth. This more than expands the perceived space between the image foreground and the background, but brings a greater area of the image into focus--a necessity for photographers who desire vivid nature images or sharp group photos. The lens also delivers an excellent price, performance ratio, with its aspherical precision lens that diminishes distortion and other types of aberrations to create crisp and high-contrast pictures. Light enough to function as your normal wide-angle lens

With it's big maximum aperture, smooth, creamy background blur can be created even when using a fast shutter. An aspherical lens element allows the lens to be compact plus adjusts spherical aberration. The resulting images are crisp even at the image corners. In addition lead-free glass has been used.

Dislike

There's terrible CA (chromatic aberration) on this lens when shot wide open or even stopped down all the way to f/4. On a 7D, this is not as noticeable, although on a 1D2 (with 1.3 crop image sensor), the corners CA becomes absolutely terrible at f/1.8. We're talking about huge ugly green and purple fringing in each of the four corners that detract from the areas of the subject where white touches darker corner colors and along the frame edges. This is very regrettable, as this is a super lens in all other areas. Although it's easy to remove CA by using Photoshop, This degree of CA should not be occurring in a lens this costly. There's really not an excuse for it.
