Canon EOS Digital Photography Photographic Lenses Quick Snap guide to SLR Lenses

T his prime lens takes awesome outdoor photos. 24mm turns out to be a good choice on an APS-C crop factor digital SLR camera, the pictures are sharp (not as sharp as the 50mm, but still exceptional), and there are no strange distortions like the kit lens. What can't be done with the 50mm F1.8 that can be done with the 24mm F2.8 is get 4 times the angle of view in a tight setting. And that's whole point of this lens. With pretty close contrast and sharpness and only a 1/2 stop loss in speed (made up for by being 24mm) I can shoot in those tight locations where I try to get everyone in the shot and with no place to  back up when I have the 50mm mounted on my camera.

Canon EF 24mm f/2.8 Wide Angle Prime Lens

Description

24mm lenses are the entry into ultra-wide angle photography and this lens is the ideal starting point. It is sharp and offers superior correction of linear distortion, and its f/2.8 aperture makes it easy to use with slow, fine-grain films or in low light. It focuses as close as 10 inches (25cm), and for many photographers gives the ideal combination of a wide-angle "look" without excessive perspective distortion.

This is a superb ultra-wide-angle choice, with floating optics for superior performance throughout its focus range and a fast f/2.8 aperture that makes it a great alternative to a zoom lens for low-light shooting. Its rear-group focusing system reaches down to less than 10 inches (0.25m).

Wide and Fast
If you need an ultra-wide angle and a large aperture, one of the following lenses will fit the bill. Ultra-wide-angle lenses can capture scenes beyond your natural field of vision. The EF 15mm f/2.8 Fisheye, the widest of them all, has a 180° angle of view. For more normal-looking wide-angle shots, there are longer wide-angle lenses up to 35mm with the maximum aperture you need.

Features

Highly popular wideangle lens featuring a large aperture. Good for casual snapshots as well as perspective shots. Floating rear focusing system corrects astigmatism and gives high contrast and sharp delineation.
