Description

The Canon 135 f/2L is a better lens than the 70-200 zoom lens as It's less conspicuous because it's black and not the stand out white, it's shorter and weighs less, making it an ideal lens for those of you who like to 'grab' shots at or street fairs or malls. People will not become alarmed by someone pointing a big white lens at them. Also, they may not be aware you are shooting a close-up or semi close-up photo of them at as it resembles a wider lens. Also, it's faster, has better bokeh and It's less expensive than the not as fast f/2.8 70-200mm lens.
It's also the quickest 135mm telephoto in its class. Don't even think about zooms even if
they're L lenses. This prime really shows off the gap between prime and zoom lensess. It's way better than the 70-200L. Don't even hesitate about shooting at f/2 and it gets even sharper at f/2.5. Using a zoom lens you must go to f/5.6 to obtain a decent result and stop down to f/8 to equal the sharpness of this lens. The build is excellent, although not excessively heavy. it also creates the best bokeh you've ever seen, creamy, milky and buttery smooth. The resulting bokeh by itself is worth the$1,034.
The same as every L series lens, the build on this one is extremely rugged. It may feel somewhat bulky and large to those who have not had the occasion to use an L series lenses in the past. This extra bulk is because canon uses longer lasting materials (metal as opposed to. plastic) and higher quality glass.
Perfect for shooting indoor
portraits
and sports
with smooth background blur.

The 135 acts like a 210mm SLR lens on a digital crop factor camera (such as the 20D, the digital rebels or even the Canon 30D), This may be a little too much for portraits although it would be perfect for low light or indoor sports.
The front lens cap is really annoying to remove when the included hood is mounted (there's little room to put your fingers to be able to get at the releases). I usually remove the hood and then take off the lens cap. Another thought would be to use another lens cap that includes a center pinch release.
