The company product line has featured 35 mm SLR cameras, digital cameras, zoom lenses, point-and-shoot digital cameras and other photo accessories.
The company was acquired in 2006 by Syntax-Brillian Corporation and was ran as a internally owned
subsidiary Subsequent to its bankruptcy filing in 2008, Syntax-Brillian sold the Vivitar brand naming rights and all intellectual property to Sakar International, a privately owned consumer electronics manufacturer headquartered in the town of Edison, New Jersey. The Vivitar brand has served as Sakar's photo and optical products brand since 2008.

The Korean made Samyang lenses are
the same lenses just renamed as
